Jan Booher Bio
Janice T. Booher, MS (JJLBooher@comcast.net) is the Director of Unitarian Universalist Justice Florida’s Climate Resilience Ministry (UUJF). She serves as UUJF liaison on the Florida Interfaith Climate Actions Network Steering Committee, provides field and organizational support for the Florida Disaster Resilience Initiative, and partners with environmental justice communities to address environmental health issues. She has helped UU congregations partner with underserved communities through the Rising Together tri-lingual outreach project, which has stepwise methods and materials that were developed under an EPA Environmental Justice grant to the UU Fellowship of Boca Raton Green Sanctuary Committee. Janice received Honorable Mention in the 2017 FEMA Community Preparedness Champions category for leading Rising Together, which provides preparedness information about the health effects of climate change to low-income and limited English proficiency households. Her work in Shorecrest, Miami in 2017 and 2018 included partnership with the National Library of Medicine/NIH Community Health Mapping Initiative and Florida International University's Sea Level Solutions Center, to develop materials and methods for citizens fearful about floodwaters to collect and map data about the depth, salinity, and the presence or absence of coliform and E. coli. Her current work with the Florida Disaster Resilience Initiative (FDRI) has involved her in disaster response that deepens connections in Florida’s underserved communities. Janice worked in the panhandle in the weeks following Hurricane Michael, and is currently working with the FDRI to provide portable buildings to relieve the housing shortage.  Her current work involves building disaster resilience by providing collaborative platforms and training residents to use them effectively; and mentoring natural leaders by providing technical assistance that increases capacity in communities on the Frontlines of Climate Change in Florida.

Pastoral Care
As a reminder, Rev Dan is always available for Pastoral Care. That simply means providing a listening ear, an encouraging word, or a calming presence when life’s many challenges come your way.
He is available not only during regular office hours and by appointment, but also 24/7 for emergencies. What might be some reasons to contact him for Pastoral Care? Reasons include the following:
Encouragement through health problems
Hospitalization
Family tragedy
Emotional or spiritual counseling (I am NOT a licensed mental health therapist, though)
Personal struggles
Relationship conflicts
Life questions or challenges
Weddings
Funerals
You can easily reach Rev. Dan via text or phone. That phone number is 561-628-6954.
Pastoral Care is one of the most integral functions of a minister, and it is always confidential.

Help Spread The Word!
As we continue to use social media as a way to get the word out about who we are and what we’re all about at 1stUUPB, you can help us a lot in just a few clicks (if you have a Facebook account, that is).
*Find our Facebook page by searching for us by name, and make sure you have “Liked” the page.
*Whenever you see a post from us in your newsfeed, don’t just scroll past it. Please click on it and select a “Like” option. If you hover over the Like button with your cursor and wait a moment without clicking, a few other options show up. You can choose a thumbs up, a heart, a laugh, a “what in the world?!?” face, a sad face or a mad face. Make a comment on the post.
*Share the post either on your own page or share it with someone you think might be interested in it.
*Give us a 5 star rating and tell what you enjoy about our congregation.
*If you have the Facebook app on your smart phone, anytime you are at 1stUUPB for a Sunday service or NewsTalk or Teaching Thursday or yoga or a movie or a meeting or whatever, please check in to let people know you are here.
Why are we asking you to do all this? Because it is an easy way to spread the word about who we are and the important work we do here. Plus, all this is FREE marketing! Who doesn’t like free?!?

TODAY’S SPEAKER IS PAT BEALL
Palm Beach Post Investigative Reporter Pat Beall was born in Tyler Texas, and lived in Colombia, Louisiana, and pre-Disney Orlando before settling in South Florida. She is a cheerful college dropout, having left school to jump into journalism. Her formal career started at the age of 19 at a tiny newspaper and eventually included a stint at The Wall Street Journal.
Her exposes on inhumane prison conditions, housing fraud, the opioid crisis, sober home fraud, and others social issues have led to significant changes at the state and local levels. Pat’s 2017 memoir of her own childhood abuse garnered national recognition.
She is a speaker at journalism workshops and a frequent panelist at the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ national conference, where she won multiple IRE finalist honors. Other recent national awards include the 2014 Hillman Prize for Newspaper Journalism, and the 2015 Barlett & Steele Bronze Medal for business investigative reporting. She shared the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Investigative Reporting, and was a 2018 Society for Features Journalism finalist for narrative storytelling. She shared the 2016 Association of Health Care Journalists Award for Public Health Reporting. She was also the Florida Sigma Delta Chi's 2017 Journalist of the Year.
In her precious spare time, she gardens, kayaks, reads and has coffee with friends. Through absolutely no fault of her own, she lives with four bullying cats.
