If you hover over the Like button with your cursor and wait a moment without clicking, a few other options show up. You can choose a thumbs up, a heart, a laugh, a “what in the world?!?” face, a sad face or a mad face. Make a comment on the post.
*Share the post either on your own page or share it with someone you think might be interested in it.
*Give us a 5 star rating and tell what you enjoy about our Congregation.
*If you have the Facebook app on your smart phone, anytime you are at 1stUUPB for a Sunday service or NewsTalk or Teaching Thursday or yoga or a movie or a meeting or whatever, please check in to let people know you are here.
Why are we asking you to do all this? Because it is an easy way to spread the word about who we are and the important work we do here. Plus, all this is FREE marketing! Who doesn’t like free?!?

WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE SAY “RELIGION”

Worship Assistant: Barbara Hatzfeld

Prelude: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For (U2)

Welcome

Call to Worship: We Need a Religion by  Scott Alexander
(Leader) In a world with so much hatred and violence,
(All) We need a religion that proclaims the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
In a world with so much brutality and fear,
We need a religion that seeks justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.
In a world with so many persons abused and neglected,
We need a religion that calls us to accept one another and encourage one another to spiritual growth.
In a world with so much dogmatism and falsehood,
We need a religion that challenges us to a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
In a world with so much tyranny and oppression,
We need a religion that affirms the right and conscience and the use of the democratic process.
In a world with so much inequity and strife,
We need a religion that strives toward the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
In a world with so much environmental degradation,
We need a religion that advocates respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
In a world with so much uncertainty and despair,
We need a religion that teaches our hearts to hope, and our hands to care.

Lighting the Chalice Flame: Come, Come, Whoever You Are
Come, come, whoever you are,
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
Ours is no caravan of despair.
Come, yet again come.

Affirmation: (In unison) Love is the spirit of this Congregation and service is its law. This is our great covenant to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love and to help one another.

WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE SAY “GOD”

Worship Assistant: David Traupman

Prelude: What if God Was One of Us (E. Bazilian)

Welcome

Call to Worship

We Don't Like Responsive Readings, by Mohan Embar

Leader: Responsive Reading runs contrary to everything you believe in as a Unitarian Universalist, because instead of formulating your own thoughts and opinions in your own unique way, you simply repeat words that I have chosen for you.
All: Like a store-bought greeting card, Responsive Reading saps us of the ability to choose the words and expressions that we ourselves would have chosen.

Look! I can make you moo like a cow.
Moo!

Or bleat like a sheep!
Ba!

Repeat after me: I will never, ever mindlessly repeat words that someone else has chosen for me.
I will never, ever mindlessly repeat words that someone else has chosen for me.

And I will always take charge of my thoughts by formulating them in my own unique way.
And I will always take charge of my thoughts by formulating them in my own unique way.

Did You Know???
YOU can participate in the annual Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade! Please join us as we walk (or ride) (or stand) in the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Riviera Beach on Saturday morning, January 19. We will gather as early as 7:30am to car pool from the church, and it’s a good idea to arrive by 8 to avoid parking problems and closed roads. The parade starts at the intersection of Blue Heron & Congress (which is where to find us if you don’t car pool).
Also, we could use a large passenger van to borrow to give rides to people who want to participate but can't walk that far.
Please contact Bob or Lynn Tomlinson to sign up or for more information. tomlinson.lynn@gmail.com

Dance in the burning flame.

Sing O Siem all people rich and poor.
Sing O Siem those who do and do not know.
Sing O Siem take the hand of one close by.
Sing O Siem of those who know because they try.
And watch the walls come tumbling down.

Sing O Siem all people of the world.
