We Don't Like Responsive Readings, by Mohan Embar
Leader: Responsive Reading runs contrary to everything you believe in as a Unitarian Universalist, because instead of formulating your own thoughts and opinions in your own unique way, you simply repeat words that I have chosen for you.
All: Like a store-bought greeting card, Responsive Reading saps us of the ability to choose the words and expressions that we ourselves would have chosen.
Look! I can make you moo like a cow.
Moo!
Or bleat like a sheep!
Ba!
Repeat after me: I will never, ever mindlessly repeat words that someone else has chosen for me.
I will never, ever mindlessly repeat words that someone else has chosen for me.
And I will always take charge of my thoughts by formulating them in my own unique way.
And I will always take charge of my thoughts by formulating them in my own unique way.
Lighting the Chalice Flame: Come, come, whoever you are
Come, come, whoever you are,
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
Ours is no caravan of despair.
Come, yet again come.
Affirmation: (in unison) Love is the spirit of this Congregation and service is its law. This is our great covenant to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love and to help one another.

Did You Know???
YOU can participate in the annual Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade! Please join us as we walk (or ride) (or stand) in the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Riviera Beach on Saturday morning, January 19. We will gather as early as 7:30am to car pool from the church, and it’s a good idea to arrive by 8 to avoid parking problems and closed roads. The parade starts at the intersection of Blue Heron & Congress (which is where to find us if you don’t car pool).
Also, we could use a large passenger van to borrow to give rides to people who want to participate but can't walk that far.
Please contact Bob or Lynn Tomlinson to sign up or for more information. tomlinson.lynn@gmail.com
Mohan Embar here - the one who wrote the Responsive Reading. You all just made my day. Ironically, the UU Church I went to in Miwaukee at the time I wrote this refused to read it, so tickled to see that there are kindred spirits in other congregations!
