A POSSIBLE FUTURE FOR OUR RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY
Worship Assistant: Steve Pock

Prelude: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (E. John & B. Taupin)

Welcome

Call to Worship:  Excerpt from Robert F. Kennedy “Day of Affirmation” address to University of Cape Town, South Africa, June 6, 1966 by Steve Pock
At the heart of Western freedom and democracy is the belief that the individual...is the touchstone of value, and all society, groups, the state, exist for {the individual's benefit.  Therefore the enlargement of liberty for individual human beings must be the supreme goal and the abiding practice of any Western society.

Lighting the Chalice Flame:  Phyllis Levin
Come, come, whoever you are,
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
Ours is no caravan of despair.
Come, yet again come.

AffirmationLove is the spirit of this Congregation and service is its law. This is our great covenant to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love and to help one another.

Hymn: #318 We Would Be One

Social Justice Minute:  Excerpt from Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech, given at the March on Washington, 1963.
So I say to you my friends, that even though we must face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.  It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed--we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.  I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood...I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.  I have a dream today!

Moment of Silence & Candle Lighting

Religious Education Class: Go now in peace, go now in peace; may the spirit of love surround you everywhere, everywhere you may go.

Offertory: I Dream A Dream (Les Miserables)

Sermon: A Possible Future For Our Religious Community, Andrew Kahn

Hymn: #123 Spirit of Life

Extinguishing the Chalice Flame: We extinguish this flame, but not the light of truth, the warmth of community, or the fire of commitment. These we carry in our hearts until we are together again.

Postlude: A Candle in the Wind (E. John & B. Taupin)
